tado° has created two versions of the Wireless Receiver X, one designed for UK homes and one designed for EU homes.
The EU version is designed with a single button to control your heating, because the boilers that are standard across Europe (combi boilers) heat domestic hot water on demand, whenever a hot water tap is turned on.
In the UK, system boilers are more common. These rely on preheating instead, so it’s most efficient to programme hot water schedules. Therefore, the UK version of the Wireless Receiver X is designed with two buttons, one to control central heating and another to control hot water. Note that the UK version of the Wireless Receiver X is suitable for both system boilers and combi boilers.
Below is an explanation of all the symbols, LED states, and buttons on your Wireless Receiver X.
Symbols and LED states
All the information you need for everyday use of your Wireless Receiver X is shown by the symbols on the front of the device.
These icons represent Power, Wi-Fi , Heating, and in the case of the UK version of the Wireless Receiver X, Hot Water. Below these symbols, LEDs can turn on, off, or blink in different patterns to give you more information about the device’s activity.
Power LED
If the Power LED is on, the device is powered.
The Power LED should always be on.
If the Power LED is off, the device is not powered.
In this case, make sure the power cable is properly connected and that there are no issues with the power supply itself. If you need help wiring up your Wireless Receiver X for the first time, we suggest reviewing the in-app installation instructions or contacting our support team for further advice.
Wi-Fi LED
The number of LEDs that light up under the Wi-Fi symbol typically indicates signal strength (1-3). However, blinking LEDs can provide information about the Wireless Receiver X’s connection status.
If 1 Wi-Fi LED is on, the device has a weak Wi-Fi signal. Refer to this article for advice on improving your signal.
If 2 Wi-Fi LEDs are on, the device has a sufficiently strong Wi-Fi signal.
If 3 Wi-Fi LEDs are on, the device has a strong Wi-Fi signal.
Display | Meaning |
If the left and right Wi-Fi LEDs blink simultaneously, the device is no longer connected to your Wi-Fi network. Check that your Wi-Fi router is powered and connected. To connect the device to a new router, Wi-Fi network, or with a new Wi-Fi password, do a factory reset and follow the instructions in the app to reconnect your device.
If the left Wi-Fi LED is on and the right Wi-Fi LED is blinking, the device is still connected to your Wi-Fi network, but has lost internet connection.
If 1 Wi-Fi LED is pulsing, the device is ready to be connected to the app during installation.
If 3 Wi-Fi LEDs light up in a sequence one by one, the device is connecting to Wi-Fi.
| If 3 Wi-Fi LEDs light up in a sequence one by one and then flash five times, the device has failed to connect to the internet. Then the device will show 1 pulsing Wi-Fi LED again, which means you can try again to connect. |
Heating LED
If the Heating LED is on, tado° is requesting heat.
If the Heating LED is off, tado° is not currently requesting heat.
Hot Water LED (UK version only)
If the Hot Water LED is on, tado° is requesting hot water.
If the Hot Water LED is off, tado° is not currently requesting hot water.
All LEDs
When the Wireless Receiver X is starting up, all LEDs light up in a sequence from left to right.
When the Wireless Receiver X is undergoing a Factory Reset, all LEDs flash simultaneously.
