How do I do a factory reset on my tado° X devices?

Please note: A factory reset will delete all settings and Wi-Fi credentials saved on a device.

If your devices are not behaving as expected, first try a basic restart.

Occasions where you may need to do a factory reset on your devices include:

  • before returning devices

  • before reselling devices

  • advanced troubleshooting

Factory reset for the Bridge X

  1. Unplug the Bridge from the electrical socket.

  2. Press and hold the WPS button while plugging the Bridge back into the socket.

  3. Hold down the WPS button until the Wi-Fi LEDs blink five times, then release the button.

  4. The first Wi-Fi LED will breathe when the Bridge is ready to be installed.

  5. Select add device in the tado° app.

  6. Scan the device QR code to reinstall your device.

Factory reset for the Smart Thermostat X or Wireless Temperature Sensor X

Doing a factory reset on this device is rarely necessary. A basic restart is often sufficient. If you are prompted to do a factory reset while troubleshooting, follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold all three buttons for 6 seconds. FR will appear on the screen.

  2. Press and hold the middle button for 6 seconds to confirm.

  3. The screen will blink FR during the reset, then show Hi! as it starts up.

  4. Three bars will blink on the screen when your device is ready to be reinstalled.

  5. Select add device in the tado° app.

  6. Scan the device QR code to reinstall your device.

Factory reset for the Smart Radiator Thermostat X

Doing a factory reset on this device is rarely necessary. A basic restart is often sufficient. If you are prompted to do a factory reset while troubleshooting, follow these steps:

  1. Disconnect the battery pack from the base of your device by turning it and releasing. If the device is already mounted on the radiator, you don’t need to unmount the whole Smart Radiator Thermostat from the radiator, only the battery pack.

  2. Insert the battery pack back into the body of the Smart Radiator Thermostat by aligning the notches and turning until you hear a click.

  3. The screen will show the tado° logo, then Hi!.

  4. Press and hold the screen for three seconds.

  5. Press and hold the screen again for three seconds to confirm factory reset.

  6. The screen will show Factory Reset in progress during the reset and Hi! when starting up again.

  7. Select Language and Display orientation.

  8. Select add device in the tado° app.

  9. Scan the device QR code to reinstall your device.

Reconfigure Wi-Fi for the Heat Pump Optimizer

If your Wi-Fi network has changed, you can update the credentials without doing a factory reset on your Heat Pump Optimizer.

  1. Press the middle button to wake up device.

  2. Use the up/down buttons to scroll to the Menu.

  3. Press the middle button to select.

  4. Select Wi-Fi connection.

  5. There are two ways you can connect to Wi-Fi. Choose between the WPS Simple Set-up method or entering your network credentials.

Factory reset for the Heat Pump Optimizer

Doing a factory reset on this device is rarely necessary. A basic restart is often sufficient.

Factory reset will erase language preference, Wi-Fi credentials, and saved settings, but will keep the latest downloaded firmware.

If you are prompted to do a factory reset while troubleshooting, follow these steps:

  1. Press the middle button to wake up device.

  2. Use the up/down buttons to scroll to the Menu.

  3. Press the middle button to select Menu.

  4. Select Reset Device.

  5. Select Factory Reset.

  6. Select Confirm Reset.

  7. Your screen will show Reset complete. Device will restart.

  8. Select add device in the tado° app.

  9. Scan the device QR code to reinstall your device.
