There are two versions of the Wireless Receiver X covered here:

  • The Wireless Receiver X [Programmer with Hot Water Control] (UK and Ireland). All references to hot water control relate to this device.

  • The Wireless Receiver X (EU)

If your Wireless Receiver X was previously working but has disconnected from the internet, typically it indicates a problem with the Wi-Fi network or too much distance between the Wireless Receiver X and the router.

If you’re installing your Wireless Receiver X for the first time and it can’t connect to the internet, check whether the tado° app is showing a connection error or a configuration error.

How to manually control the Wireless Receiver X when offline

When the Wireless Receiver X is offline, you can press the Boost Heating and Boost Hot Water buttons on the device to manually switch heating and hot water on or off.

If your Wireless Receiver X controls your hot water, it will keep the last recorded manual setting and will follow the schedule set before the connection was lost until it’s restored.

How to reconnect your Wireless Receiver X to the internet

If all LEDs are off

  1. If no LEDs light up, there is no power going to the device. Make sure that the power is on.

  2. If your Wireless Receiver X has a plug, make sure the device is plugged in.

If only the Power LED is on and the Wi-Fi LED is blinking

  1. Restart the Wireless Receiver X by pressing the Boost Heating button for 9 seconds.

  2. Make sure that your Wi-Fi is activated and working. To do so, check Wi-Fi access on other devices (i.e. a smartphone or laptop).

  3. Check whether the Wi-Fi password has been changed. If this is the case, you can do a Factory Reset on your Wireless Receiver X and re-install it via the tado° app.

If the left Wi-Fi LED is on and the right Wi-Fi LED is blinking

  1. Check if your internet connection is working. To do this, log in to your home’s Wi-Fi network on your smartphone. If your Wi-Fi is not working, please check that your router is powered and restart the router and any other Wi-Fi repeater in your network. This will usually resolve a temporary issue with the internet connection.

  2. Restart the Wireless Receiver X by pressing the Boost Heating button for 9 seconds.

You can also check the tado° server status. If the issue persists, it could mean that you’re having an issue with internet availability. To troubleshoot this, you can try to adjust the settings in your router. Sometimes adjusting the Domain Name System (DNS) settings can resolve the issue.

To troubleshoot internet availability issues on your router, try the following:

  1. Go to the DNS settings in your router.

  2. Set your primary DNS as Google DNS by setting the address of the DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and the address of the alternative DNS server to 8.8.4.4.
