You can manage all your tado° X room control devices (Smart Thermostat X, Smart Radiator Thermostat X, or Wireless Temperature Sensor X) in the Amazon Alexa app and with Alexa voice commands.

To control tado° X devices with Alexa, you’ll need:

Note: You’ll need to add your tado° X room control devices one by one to the Alexa app, but you don’t need to add any tado° Thread border routers.

For easier voice command recognition, group your tado° devices in rooms in the same way in the Alexa app as in the tado° app.

Adding tado° X devices to Alexa

If you want to add your tado° X devices to Alexa, we recommend setting them up in the tado° app first. If you only add your devices to the Alexa app, you won’t get tado° firmware and security updates, as Amazon’s Thread border routers currently don’t support NAT64.

First, make sure that:

  • the device that you want to add is powered

  • your phone is running on iOS 16.4, Android 9, or later

In the tado° app (recommended) on iOS:

  1. Open the tado° app and select Settings > Rooms and Devices.

  2. Select the device that you want to add.

  3. Scroll down and select Device linking > then Copy code.

  4. Open the Alexa app and select Devices.

  5. Tap on the plus (+) icon and select Add Device.

  6. Scroll to the bottom of the list and select Other > then Matter.

  7. Select Try Numeric Code Instead?

  8. Select Enter Code and paste the code from the tado° app.

  9. Select Next and repeat for each device.

In the tado° app (recommended) on Android:

  1. Open the tado° app and select Settings > Rooms and Devices.

  2. Select the device that you want to add.

  3. Scroll down and select Device linking.

  4. Select the Alexa icon and follow the instructions to link your device.

  5. Repeat for each device.

In the Alexa app:

The device discovery function that is suggested when you search for tado° in the Alexa app, won’t work for tado° X devices.

If you want to add your tado° X devices to the Alexa app, follow these instructions on the Amazon support page. Note that this method only applies to brand new devices (not yet added to the tado° app), or devices that have just undergone a Factory Reset.

Amazon support

For more information about using Alexa with your tado° devices, please refer to Amazon’s official support pages for:

If you add your tado° X device to multiple third-party Matter networks (e.g. Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home), it may slightly decrease the device’s battery life due to additional communication across networks. Managing your tado° X devices in the tado° app and one other smart home platform shouldn’t noticeably affect battery life.
