If you receive a Something went wrong message while trying to connect your tado° X device with Matter-compatible apps or devices, follow these steps:

1. Wait and retry

If the connection fails, please wait for 15-20 minutes. Some tado° X devices may be undergoing firmware updates that need to be completed before proceeding. Then, try selecting Matter device linking again in the tado° app.

2. Use the correct smartphone and Wi-Fi network

  • Use the same smartphone: tado° stores its Matter setup information on the smartphone used to install your tado° X device. This smartphone holds the necessary information for connecting new devices. Using a different smartphone will cause connectivity issues.

  • Connect to the same Wi-Fi network: make sure your smartphone and tado° X devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

3. Move your Bridge X closer

If you have a Bridge X, move it closer to your router and your other tado° X devices to ensure a strong and stable connection.

4. Re-push Thread configuration for your tado° Thread border router

Thread-based communication can sometimes face issues preventing new devices from connecting or syncing properly. To reset the communication:

  • Open the tado° app and select the Configure button for your tado° Thread border router (e.g., Bridge X, Wireless Receiver X, or Heat Pump Optimizer X).

5. Factory Reset your device and reinstall it

If none of the above steps work, do a factory reset on the tado° device you're trying to connect. Then, scan the device QR code to reinstall the device.

6. Restart your smartphone and Wi-Fi router

  • Restart your smartphone: a simple restart can fix temporary issues with your smartphone or the tado° app. Then, try connecting the devices again.

  • Restart your Wi-Fi router: this can help fix network stability issues that may prevent proper device connection.

Matter device linking disabled

If Matter device linking is disabled in the tado° app, it means the feature is currently unavailable. This could happen due to app, device, or network issues.

Your tado° X device may still appear as connected, and you can continue controlling it via the tado° app, even though Matter device linking isn’t working. This could indicate that there was an issue during installation. In such cases, reinstalling the device may help resolve the problem.

Also, Matter device linking may become unavailable if you reinstall the tado° app, or if you clear your app’s storage on Android.

To fix this:

  1. Do a factory reset on the tado° device you’re trying to connect.

  2. Scan the device QR code to reinstall the device.
