How can I set up my tado° X devices with Google Home?

Written by tado°

To access general information on how to add your tado° X devices to multiple third-party Matter networks, you can always consult this article.

You can manage all your tado° X room control devices (Smart Thermostat X, Smart Radiator Thermostat X, or Wireless Temperature Sensor X) in the Google Home app and with Google voice commands.

To control your tado° X devices with the Google Home app or Google Assistant, you’ll need:

  • a Google Home Hub and a tado° Bridge X, Wireless Receiver X, or Heat Pump Optimizer X.

  • Or, a Google Nest WiFi Pro.

For more details, please visit our Help Center article, Do I need a tado° Bridge X?

Note: You’ll need to add your tado° X room control devices one by one to the Google Home app, but you don’t need to add any tado° Thread border routers.

Setting up your devices

Start by downloading the tado° app and creating an account.

  1. Register your devices in the tado° app. Go to Settings > Rooms & Devices > Add device.

  2. Follow the installation process in the tado° app.

After you’ve installed your devices, you can add them to the Google Home app.

  1. Open the tado° app.

  2. Select Settings > Rooms & Devices, then select the device you want to add.

  3. Scroll down and select Matter Connections > Connect another app.

  4. Copy the Matter setup code.

  5. Open the Google Home app and select Devices > Add > Matter-enabled device.

  6. Select scan QR code, then select Manual Entry to paste the Matter setup code.

Please note that the QR code on the tado° device won’t work for Matter activation once it has been installed in the tado° app. This is why the tado° app will provide a new setup code for Matter activation.

  7. Repeat for each device.

For easier voice command recognition, group your tado° devices in rooms in the same way in the Google app as in the tado° app.

If you encounter any issues while setting up your devices in the tado° app, please follow these troubleshooting steps to resolve them.

Please note: Matter integration doesn’t currently support domestic hot water control.

If you add your tado° X device to multiple third-party Matter networks (e.g. Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home), it may slightly decrease the device’s battery life due to additional communication across networks. Managing your tado° X devices in the tado° app and one other smart home platform shouldn’t noticeably affect battery life.
