It’s easy to manually adjust your heating directly on your tado° X devices. When you make manual changes, tado° activates Manual Control mode and overrides the Smart Schedule for the period you select. Manual Control can be temporarily interrupted by Away Mode or Open Window Detection.

On the Smart Thermostat X or Wireless Temperature Sensor X, press any button to activate the display. Then use the right and left buttons to adjust the target temperature.

On the Smart Radiator Thermostat X, turn the control knob to adjust the target temperature.

Child Lock

If the temperature doesn’t change when you turn the control knob on your Smart Radiator Thermostat X, check if there is a padlock icon in the display. If so, Child Lock is activated.

To deactivate Child Lock in the app, follow these steps:

  1. Open the tado° app.

  2. Go to Settings > Rooms & Devices.

  3. Select the Smart Radiator Thermostat X that you want to unlock.

  4. Toggle Child Lock off.

If you don’t have access to the app at the moment, you can temporarily deactivate Child Lock manually, but please note that Child Lock will activate again as soon as the display goes idle. To permanently deactivate Child Lock, you need access to the app.

To temporarily deactivate Child Lock without the app, follow these steps:

  1. Turn the control knob to wake up the display.

  2. Turn the control knob in the other direction. If Child Lock is activated, a padlock icon and instructions will appear.

  3. Tap and hold the screen for 5 seconds.

  4. Tap and hold the screen for 3 seconds to confirm.

  5. Now you can turn the control knob to adjust the target temperature.

Smart Home integrations

You can also control tado° devices through Smart Home integrations like Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa, either within the apps or with voice commands. Changes made via Smart Home integrations and changes made directly on the tado° devices are both types of Manual Control.

How long does Manual Control last?

You can customise how long you want a manual change to last. This is useful if you rely on a Smart Schedule with moderate temperatures most of the time, but want to increase or decrease the temperature every now and then. After the manual change times out, your devices resume the Smart Schedule automatically.

To set the duration of Manual Control, follow these steps:

  1. Open the tado° app.

  2. Go to Settings > Rooms & Devices.

  3. Select the Room.

  4. Select Manual Control on tado° device.

  5. Choose when want your Manual Control to end:

    • Until next time block: as defined in your Smart Schedule. tado° will still react to Away Mode if Geofencing is enabled and leave your home.

    • Timer: tap to set a specific time. tado° will ignore all other settings until the timer runs out.

    • Until you resume schedule: active indefinitely, until you resume your Smart Schedule. tado° will ignore all other settings until you end Manual Control.

Note that for all duration options, tado° will still react to Away Mode if Geofencing is enabled and you leave your home.

To cancel Manual Control in the app, you can do either of the following:

  • To cancel Manual Control for all devices, go to the Home screen and select Resume Schedule: All rooms at the top of the screen.

  • To cancel Manual Control for an individual room, go to the Home screen, select the relevant room, and select Resume Schedule.

  • tado° will temporarily cancel Manual Control and follow Away Mode instead if Geofencing is enabled and you leave your home.

You can also switch between Manual Control mode and your Smart Schedule directly on the tado° device. A hand icon in the device display indicates Manual Control mode and a calendar icon indicates that your device is following a Smart Schedule. To resume your Smart Schedule, simply adjust the temperature until it matches the temperature in your Smart Schedule, and the calendar icon appears.
