Your tado° X setup requires a Bridge X. The Bridge X is the device that enables communication between tado° X devices and is included in our Starter Kits.
Instead of a Bridge X, you can use one of the following devices:
Alternatively, you can connect tado° devices to non-tado° Smart Home hubs:
Apple Home Hubs, such as:
HomePod (2nd generation)
HomePod mini
Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or 3rd generation 128 GB)
Please note: Apple Home Hubs are not compatible with tado° Bridge X, tado° Wireless Receiver X, and tado° Heat Pump Optimizer X. They will create separate Thread networks.
Not all Apple TV models support Thread. Whether a model includes this feature depends on Apple’s design choices, and tado° doesn’t have control over that.
The following table shows which Apple TV models are compatible with Thread:
Product | Model | Compatible with Thread? |
Apple TV 4K | A2843 - 3rd Gen 128 GB A2737 - 3rd Gen 64 GB A2169 - 2nd Gen (32 GB & 64 GB) | ✅YES ❌NO ✅YES |
Apple TV or Apple TV HD | A1218 / A1378 / A1427 / A1469 / A1625 | ❌NO |
To extend the range of your network, you can add multiple Thread border routers, including the tado° Bridge X.
Adding tado° devices to a non-tado° Thread border router
You can add the tado° Smart Radiator Thermostat X, tado° Smart Thermostat X, and tado° Wireless Temperature Sensor X to a Thread border router from a different Smart Home system.
When you do so, you can install and control these devices via the tado° app and via the other Smart Home system’s platform. Currently, this is possible with:
Apple Home Hub: Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or 3rd generation 128 GB), HomePod (2nd generation) or HomePod mini
