What do the symbols on the Wired Smart Thermostat X or Wireless Temperature Sensor X mean? What are the differences between the generations?

Interacting with the device

Wired Smart Thermostat X (1st gen)

& Wireless Temperature Sensor X (1st gen)

You can turn on the LED-powered display of the Wired Smart Thermostat X (1st gen) or Wireless Temperature Sensor X (1st gen) by pressing any of the three buttons on the front of the device.

You can manually increase or decrease the temperature by pressing the up and down arrow buttons.

You can switch between viewing the measured temperature and the target temperature by pressing the middle button. The middle button also allows you to restart the device if you press and hold it for ten seconds.

The display has an automated timeout by default and will turn off after a few seconds.

The temperature on the display represents the measured room temperature if accompanied by a thermometer icon. Otherwise, the temperature represents the target temperature.

You can turn on the LED-powered display of the Wired Smart Thermostat X (2nd gen) or Wireless Temperature Sensor X (2nd gen) by pressing the top button of the device.

After activating the display, the measured temperature will be shown. Then the target temperature will follow, accompanied by the interactive lighting.

You can manually increase or decrease the temperature by circular swiping clockwise or counterclockwise along the interactive light ring.

Any second press of the top button will show the available Quick Action (Humidity by default). To trigger a Quick Action from the device, long-press the top button until the interactive light ring is full. The lightning will fill up to confirm the change. Humidity doesn't require activation.

The display has an automated timeout by default and will turn off after a few seconds.

Depending on the state of the device, notifications like battery or connectivity state can be shown before seeing the temperature. You can skip non-critical warnings to change the temperature immediately by touching the device in the area of the interactive light ring after activating the display.

Meaning of icons on the device’s display

Meaning

Thermometer

Appears next to the current measured temperature.

Off

The heating is off and set to frost protection (5°C).

Heat Request

0, 1, 2, or 3 wavy lines indicate the amount of heat being requested.

Schedule

The device is following a Smart Schedule.

Manual Control

The device is following a command set manually on the device or via the tado° app.

Away Mode

Your tado Home is in Away mode and the device is following the preset Away mode setting.

Energy-saving feature active

Either Open Window Detection or Balance is adjusting your usual schedule to reduce unnecessary heating. You can resume your usual schedule at any time in the app.

Holiday Mode

Holiday Mode has been activated from your tado° app, and your tado° Home is following the preferred heating and hot water settings you’ve set for when you are away for a vacation.

The icon is visible anytime it is active.

Boost Heating

Boost Heating is activated, and your heating will be set to the maximum temperature for 30 min.

The icon will appear regardless of whether the command came from the tado° app or the device.

Resume Schedule

Resume Schedule is activated, and your heating will be working based on the personalised Smart Schedule you’ve set in the tado° app.

This icon is only available via the Quick Action Button on the device.

Humidity

Shows the current humidity level in the room where your tado° device is.

This is only available via the Quick Action Button on the device.

Open Window

Your tado° device detected a window being open in its respective room.

This cannot be activated manually.

Connection Status

The following icons give information about the device’s connection status. These icons appear during the installation process or if the device experiences a connectivity issue.

Meaning

Connecting

The device is currently connecting to your smart home network (consisting of Thread and Matter).

Connection failed

The device was unable to connect. Refer to this article for troubleshooting.

Successfully connected

The device has been connected. This icon will disappear after a few seconds.

Signal lost

The device has lost connection with the Thread border router.

Battery Charging

The battery of your Smart Thermostat X (2nd gen) or Wireless Temperature Sensor X (2nd gen) is being charged.

Battery Full

The battery of your Smart Thermostat X (2nd gen) or Wireless Temperature Sensor X (2nd gen) is fully charged.

This is only visible when unplugging the charger.
