You can’t add tado° devices from different product lines to the same Home in the tado° app.
tado° X devices aren’t compatible with V3+ or earlier tado° devices. The two product lines use different technology platforms and communication standards, so they can’t work together in the same Home.
I have V3+ or earlier devices and want to add a tado° X device
You can’t add a tado° X device to a Home that already contains V3+ or earlier devices.
You have two options:
Switch to tado° X: Replace your existing V3+ or earlier devices with tado° X devices and set them up in a new Home in the tado° app.
Use both product lines with limitations: You can use V3+ or earlier devices and tado° X devices in different parts of your home. However, the two product lines work independently and can’t communicate with each other. You’ll need to keep your V3+ or earlier devices in one Home and your tado° X devices in a separate Home in the tado° app. You can manage both Homes with the same tado° account.
If you want to switch to tado° X
Create a new Home in the tado° app. You can use your existing tado° account.
Set up your tado° X devices in the new Home.
Enter your settings again. You’ll need to recreate your Smart Schedules, Energy IQ settings, room data, and other Home settings.
You’ll also need a Thread border router to set up your tado° X devices. You can use one of the following:
a tado° Bridge X (included in our Starter Kits)
If you have a third-party Thread border router, you can add your tado° X devices to a compatible smart home system using Matter.
The following tado° X devices support Matter:
Smart Thermostat X
Smart Thermostat X (2nd gen)
Wireless Temperature Sensor X
Smart Radiator Thermostat X
You can control these devices through the smart home app you connect them to, the tado° app, or both.
Before switching to tado° X
Before you switch to tado° X, check that it’s compatible with your heating system.
tado° X supports heating systems that use OpenTherm for modulating control only. If your Wired Smart Thermostat V3+ uses a different type of modulating control, tado° X is not compatible with your heating system.

Once you’ve confirmed compatibility, follow the installation instructions in How can I uninstall my tado° Wired Smart Thermostat and replace it with a tado° Smart Thermostat X?
I have tado° X devices and want to add an earlier tado° device
You can’t add a V3+ or earlier device to a Home that contains tado° X devices.
If you want to use both product lines, keep them in separate Homes under the same tado° account.
Please note: The two Homes work independently. Your tado° X devices can’t communicate with your V3+ or earlier devices.
