If you are trying to mount your Smart Radiator Thermostat and see a Failed message, or if you see a red wrench icon in the app beside the device name, this means that the device can’t make proper contact with the radiator valve.
Please note that if a Failed message appears while you are trying to connect your device to your network, the problem is most likely related to the connection process instead.
When the Smart Radiator Thermostat X is screwed onto the radiator valve, it tests how to fully open and fully close the radiator valve. If there is a problem with the physical connection between the device and the radiator valve, the mounting process will fail.
To resolve this, follow these steps:
Unmount your Smart Radiator Thermostat X from the radiator valve.
If you are using an adapter, make sure that the adapter is properly tightened.Some adapters may need a specific pin extender (provided in the tado° package) to work. For more information, please read this article about Smart Radiator Thermostat adapters.
Remount the Smart Radiator Thermostat X onto the radiator valve. Make sure that the device screws onto the valve smoothly and securely.
Other issues that can prevent the Smart Radiator Thermostat from mounting properly include the following:
The radiator valve is blocked by calcification. This causes a Failed error because the distance detected between the open and closed positions of the valve is too short.
To resolve this, use a spanner or a similar tool to move the pin in and out to unblock the valve. You can also try reinstalling the old valve head and opening and closing it multiple times to improve the pin’s movement.
The external threads on the radiator valve are rusty, dirty, or damaged.
If this is the case, cleaning any visible dirt or debris from the radiator valve and reconnecting the device carefully will usually resolve the problem.
The battery is low.
If your Smart Radiator Thermostat X’s battery is low, you can recharge it with a standard USB-C cable.
