If your Smart Radiator Thermostat X does not fit directly onto your radiator valve, you may need an adapter. You can also check this compatibility guide to make sure that tado° works with your radiator valve.

This folding paper tool has cut-outs that match the size and shape of common radiator valves.
To use the tool, simply hold the paper cut-outs up to your radiator valve and find the cut-out that matches best. You’ll notice that some cut-outs reflect the exact outline of the valve type and others are semicircles. The semicircles fit around the rim of the radiator valve to measure its diameter.

The semicircle labeled Mostly no adapter corresponds to the M30 x 1.5mm radiator valve type, which is the most common type of radiator valve. Most people with this valve can screw the Smart Radiator Thermostat X directly onto the valve, without an adapter. Less than 1% of heating systems in Germany use M30 x 1.0mm radiator valves, which require an adapter even though they have the same diameter. See the diagram below.
