You can buy tado° X devices combined in Starter Kits, multi-pack bundles, or as individual devices.
A tado° Starter Kit is a convenient first purchase when setting up your tado° home because they contain popular combinations of tado° devices, including a Bridge X. The Bridge X connects all your tado° X devices to each other and the tado° app, so it’s essential to have a compatible Thread border router like the Bridge X in your setup. You can then expand your heating setup with other individual tado° X products.
tado° X devices can work with Thread border routers from third-party manufacturers. So if you already own a Thread border router (like the tado° Heat Pump Optimizer X or other compatible home hubs), you won’t need to add a Bridge X, and you can buy your devices individually or in multi-pack bundles. An additional Bridge X can improve the range of your Thread network, but this is not typically necessary unless your home is very large or has multiple storeys.
Please note that tado° X devices are not compatible with earlier tado° product lines (V1-V3+) because of their different underlying connectivity standards. It is not possible to add tado° X products to a V1-V3+ tado° Home. If you currently own earlier tado° products and want to extend your tado° network, we recommend adding V3+ devices, which we will continue to fully support.
