You can manage all your tado° X room control devices (Smart Thermostat X, Smart Radiator Thermostat X, or Wireless Temperature Sensor X) in the Apple Home app. To add Matter accessories and to control them remotely, you’ll need a compatible Apple home hub, such as:

  • HomePod (2nd generation)

  • HomePod mini

  • Apple TV 4K (2nd generation or 3rd generation 128 GB)

Not all Apple TV models support Thread. Whether a model includes this feature depends on Apple’s design choices, and tado° doesn’t have control over that.

The following table shows which Apple TV models are compatible with Thread:

You'll need to add your tado° X devices one by one to the Apple Home app, but you don’t need to add any tado° Thread border routers (e.g. Bridge X, Heat Pump Optimizer X, Wireless Receiver X).

For easier voice command recognition, group your tado° devices in rooms in the same way in the Apple Home app as in the tado° app.

Adding tado° X devices to your Apple Home

You can add your tado° X devices to your Apple Home either from the tado° app or the Apple Home app. You'll need to add them individually. First, make sure that:

  • you have a compatible Apple home hub (e.g., HomePod mini)

  • the tado° X device that you want to add is powered

  • your mobile device is connected to the same 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi as your tado° Bridge X (or other compatible home hub)

  • Bluetooth is enabled on your mobile device

  • your mobile device is running on iOS/iPadOS 16.4 or later

In the tado° app:

If you have already added the device to the tado° app, follow these instructions in the tado° app:

  1. Select Settings > Rooms & Devices.

  2. Select the device that you want to add to your Apple Home.

  3. Select Matter device linking and follow the instructions to share your device to the Apple Home app.

In the Apple Home app:

If you haven’t added your device to the tado° app yet, you can follow these instructions in the Apple Home app:

  1. Tap the + symbol in the top right corner and select Add Accessory in the drop-down menu.

  2. Identify the device in one of the following ways:

    • If the device is new and not yet added to any app, scan the Matter Setup QR Code.

    • If you have already added the device to a different app (like Google Home or Alexa), scan the Matter QR Code or enter the Matter code that is shown in this app.

  3. Confirm the device location and name to complete the setup.

If you add your tado° X device to multiple third-party Matter networks (e.g. Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Google Home), it may slightly decrease the device’s battery life due to additional communication across networks. Managing your tado° X devices in the tado° app and one other smart home platform shouldn’t noticeably affect battery life.
