Using the tado° app with your heat pump
Once you install the Heat Pump Optimizer X, your tado° app Home Screen will show a Heating tile and, if your heat pump controls hot water, a Hot Water tile. You can select these tiles to view and control your heat pump functions. You can still use your original heat pump controller for manual functions and cooling.
Schedules and Manual Control
Select the Heating tile to manage your heating schedule or set a Manual Control. Access your schedule by tapping on the calendar icon in the top right corner of the screen.
The default temperatures listed in this section are based on the capabilities of your heat pump’s particular make and model.
If the Heat Pump Optimizer X is your only tado° product, you can set a target room temperature and tado° will estimate how much your heat pump should heat. The accuracy of your room temperature reading can be improved by adding tado° temperature-sensing devices that will send feedback to your heat pump.
If you have other tado° devices, multiple devices will work together to measure the temperature throughout your home.
In addition to creating Smart Schedules for your heat pump to follow by default, you can manually control your heat pump’s activity in the tado° app by moving the temperature slider up or down. Learn more about Manual Control settings in this article.
Select the Hot Water tile to manage the heating schedule for your domestic hot water.
On this screen, you can switch between your hot water schedule and OFF. You can manage your hot water schedule by tapping on the calendar icon in the top right corner of the screen.
You can also select Boost Hot Water if you want a full tank of hot water right away.
Room Guided mode vs Heat Pump Guided mode
We recommend using Room Guided mode if you have tado° temperature-sensing devices in addition to your Heat Pump Optimizer X, like a Smart Radiator Thermostat X or Smart Thermostat X. Room Guided mode optimizes your heat pump’s activity for efficiency based on your individual room schedules, manual controls, and the actual temperature in each room. Once the target temperature for all rooms has been reached, your heat pump will enter Standby mode after 30 minutes to save energy.
Heat Pump Guided mode is the default setting for your heat pump if you don’t control the heating of individual rooms with other tado° devices. You might also choose Heat Pump Guided mode if you want to heat your whole home equally, for example.
Skills
In the tado° app Home Screen, you can select Balance for Heat Pumps and Energy IQ for settings and reports related to your heat pump’s activity. If you already have other tado° products, you’ll find additional skills relating to room temperature control.
Balance for Heat Pumps
Balance for Heat Pumps is a loadshifting subscription service that adjusts heating automatically based on fluctuating electricity prices.
Energy IQ
If you have Balance or Auto-Assist, you can check your energy consumption report in Energy IQ.
