Whether your heat pump system uses underfloor heating, radiators, or both, you can make your system smart with a Heat Pump Optimizer X. You can additionally replace your existing room thermostats with Wired Smart Thermostats X and existing radiator thermostats with Smart Radiator Thermostats X to improve efficiency.

The Smart Thermostats X and Smart Radiator Thermostats X measure room temperature, send information to the tado° app, and call for heat. In response, the tado° Heat Pump Optimizer X will manage the heat supplied by the heat pump to the rooms.

Note: any rooms without Smart Radiator Thermostats will receive heat when the heat pump is turned on. To prevent unnecessary heating, we recommend that you set any conventional radiator thermostats to frost protection, then manually adjust them when the room is in use. The same applies to thermostat-controlled underfloor heating.

You’ll need the following tado° devices (recommended setup):

We recommend that you equip frequently-used rooms with tado° devices, so they can be more reactive to changing heat requests. If your heat pump controls multiple heating circuits, the Heat Pump Optimizer X will only be able to control one of them, so we recommend choosing the circuit with the rooms that are used the most.

Adding a Heat Pump Optimizer X to your home lets you:

  • make your heat pump smart and controllable through the tado° app

  • create smart heating schedules in the tado° app

  • access the Balance subscription to loadshift your heat pump based on your PV system, outdoor temperature, and electricity tariff

  • optimize your energy consumption further with Room-guided mode when combined with additional tado° devices
