tado° X products are compatible with home heating systems controlled by:

  • wired room thermostats

  • radiators

  • heat pumps

The precise way tado° X controls your system depends on which heating system you have. You’ll need different tado° devices depending on which of the following setups:

1. You have a wired room thermostat

A wired room thermostat is typically mounted in the living area. It can be wired to the boiler, underfloor heating, a zone valve, or a heat pump. On the thermostat, you can set a target temperature. The thermostat compares the actual room temperature to the target temperature. Then it adjusts the heating accordingly.

A tado° Smart Thermostat X will replace most wired room thermostats. They have all the basic functions of a normal wall thermostat, and more. The Smart Thermostat works together with your other tado° devices to make your system smarter.

2. You have radiators

Radiators are typically situated throughout the home, often one per room, supplied by central or district heating. They can be connected to a zone valve, a boiler, or a heat pump. On the radiator head, you can manually set a target temperature.

tado° Smart Radiator Thermostat X can replace your existing radiator heads, making your radiators smart, and allowing them to work together with a tado° Wireless Temperature Sensor X or Smart Thermostat X.

3. You have a hydronic heat pump

If you have a compatible heat pump, the Heat Pump Optimizer X makes your heat pump smart, so you can control functions and schedules from the tado° app. You don't need to remove your existing heat pump controller.

The Heat Pump Optimizer X can work independently or together with tado° room control devices.

If you have an hourly dynamic energy tariff (Time-of-Use tariff), you can subscribe to tado° Balance for Heat Pumps, which automatically shifts energy consumption to lower-cost periods.
