Learn how to improve the accuracy of your temperature measurements by creating a temperature offset or using additional sensors.

The tado° app shows you the measured temperature for each room. If a room’s heating is only controlled by Smart Radiator Thermostats X, the temperature shown in the app is an average of the measurements from all these devices. If there is a Smart Thermostat X or Wireless Temperature Sensor X in the room, this device will act as the measuring device.

In some cases, you may have to install your tado° devices in locations that aren’t ideal for room temperature measurement. For example, if your radiator is in an enclosed area (e.g. between a wall and the back of a sofa), then the Smart Radiator Thermostat X may measure a temperature that is higher than the general room temperature. Or, if you need to wire a Smart Thermostat X in a part of your house that is draftier, less insulated, or more open than the rooms you use the most, the measured temperature could be lower than the temperature you feel.

If the temperature measured tado° seems too high or too low, there are a couple of ways to improve it.

Install a Wireless Temperature Sensor X

You can install a Wireless Temperature Sensor X in a more central location in the room for a more accurate overall room temperature measurement. This will measure and control the room temperature from that point. It also acts as a centralised manual controller for any Smart Radiator Thermostat X in the room. Refer to this article for more advice on where to install a Wireless Temperature Sensor X.

Set an offset value for a room control device

You can use a standard thermometer to check the actual room temperature. If there is a difference between the temperature measured by the thermometer and the temperature measured by the tado° device, this is the temperature offset.

For instance, if your thermometer measures 22 °C while tado° measures 20 °C, then the temperature offset is +2 °C.

Or if the thermometer reads 16 °C but tado° shows 19 °C, the temperature offset is -3 °C.

To set or change the temperature offset, please do the following in the tado° app:

  1. Go to Settings > Rooms & Devices.

  2. Select the device you want to adjust.

  3. Select Temperature Offset.

  4. Scroll up or down to set the desired offset value.

  5. Select Save Offset to confirm.

After you have set a temperature offset, the measured temperature that tado° displays will include your temperature offset.
