What is Control Mode?

Control Mode focuses on providing you with the highest efficiency of your heating system by allowing you to choose the exact type of setup you have and adjust the behavior of the tado° Smart Thermostat X/Wireless Receiver X to it.

Please note: All modes apply only to the Relay-controlled systems (on/off).

You can choose the Mode for your heating system by going into Settings > Rooms & Devices > Select the device > Control Mode.

There you will have the following options:

  • Default (Gas boiler)

  • Underfloor heating

  • Heat pump

  • On heat request, continuously "on"

Default (Gas boiler)

This Mode is to be selected if the tado° Smart Thermostat X/tado° Wireless Receiver X controls a boiler/zone valve directly.

It ensures the most accurate temperature control.

Underfloor heating

This Mode is to be selected if the tado° Smart Thermostat X/tado° Wireless Receiver X controls an underfloor heating zone.

It ensures reduced cycling frequency, respecting the thermal inertia of the underfloor heating.

Heat pump

This Mode is to be selected if the tado° Smart Thermostat X/tado° Wireless Receiver X controls the heat pump directly.

It ensures a more efficient control by reducing unnecessary start-ups of the heat pump and frequent cycling.

If you have a pellets boiler or oil boiler we recommend you to use the heat pump settings, as these systems require a similar heating dynamics, with less start/stop cycles.

On heat request, continuously "on"

This Mode is to be selected if the tado° Smart Thermostat X/tado° Wireless Receiver X should keep the underfloor heating valve permanently open for any heat request; with zero heat request, the valve stays closed.

This is only suitable for setups where the heat source (boiler or heat pump) is controlled by another tado° device, while this device ensures continuous flow into the underfloor heating.

This setup is common in Dutch installations where both boiler (or heat pump) and underfloor heating are controlled by two separate tado° devices.

This feature is part of the basic functionality of the tado° system and is therefore available to everyone free of charge.
