Open Window Detection monitors sudden changes in temperature or humidity in your tado° X Home. When it detects a change that suggests you’ve opened a window, it alerts you so you can switch off your heating and avoid wasting energy.
If you’ve activated push notifications, you’ll receive a notification when tado° detects an open window.
If you have AI Assist, tado° automatically switches off your heating.
If you don't have AI Assist, you can select Turn off heating in Quick Actions in the tado° app.
How does Open Window Detection learn each room?
Open Window Detection learns the characteristics of each room where you activate it. This improves detection accuracy and helps it reliably identify when you open a window.
During the learning phase, Open Window Detection adapts to the room’s conditions to detect open windows more accurately.
Open Window Detection has one of these states in each room:
Off: Open Window Detection is switched off.
On - Learning: Open Window Detection is active and is learning the room’s characteristics.
On - Optimized: Open Window Detection has learned the room’s characteristics and can detect open windows more effectively. It continues to adapt when room conditions change.
How do I activate Open Window Detection?
You can activate Open Window Detection separately for each room.
Open the tado° app.
Go to Settings > Open Window Detection.
Select a room.
Turn on Open Window Detection.
Choose how long you want the heating to stay off after an open window is detected. The default shut-off duration is 15 minutes.
Repeat these steps for every room where you want to use Open Window Detection.
How do I cancel an open window shut-off?
You can override an Open Window Detection shut-off and turn your heating back on at any time.
In the tado° app
Open the tado° app.
Open the room with the open window icon.
Select Cancel.
On your tado° device
Change the target temperature. Any manual temperature adjustment overrides Open Window Detection.
After the shut-off duration ends or you manually adjust the temperature, tado° blocks Open Window Detection for 15 minutes. This prevents the same open window from immediately triggering another shut-off.
When won't I get an open window notification?
You won’t receive an open window notification when:
The heating in the room is set to OFF.
Your Home is in Away Mode when tado° detects the temperature or humidity change.
The room with an open window is offline in the tado° app.
Please note: If you manage multiple homes with tado°, push notifications only work for the Home you’re currently signed in to, unless you have an AI Assist subscription. With a subscription, push notifications can work across all your Homes.
