tado° Smart Charging is moving into the main tado° app

To provide you with a more seamless and integrated energy management experience, we are moving the Smart Charging functionality from the standalone tado° Smart Charging app directly into the main tado° app.

The new Smart Charging feature is available immediately in the tado° app. The old standalone Smart Charging app will be discontinued and will stop working on July 1st, 2026.

What is new?

By bringing Smart Charging into the tado° app, we are introducing some exciting improvements:

  • Clear Charging Schedules: You can now clearly see directly in the app exactly when the smart charging algorithm plans to charge your car based on electricity price forecasts.

  • Broader Compatibility: We now support a significantly wider range of electric vehicles and wallbox chargers.

However, to verify whether your specific car model is supported, please check it in the app.

Important Note: Solar charging (charging your vehicle using excess energy from your solar panels) is currently not yet supported in the tado° app.

Availability and Pricing

The new Smart Charging feature in the tado° app is currently available to users in the following countries: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Spain, France, and the United Kingdom.

Pricing details:

  • Free for Tariff Customers: If you have a tado° Energy tariff or an aWATTar tariff, the Smart Charging feature is completely free of charge.

  • Paid subscription: All other customers can enjoy the Smart Charging feature if they purchase the respective subscription in the app. Meaning, you can try it for six months for free, and once the trial period ends, you can choose to subscribe to the Smart Charging subscription to unlock and continue using the feature.

How to make the switch?

To continue using Smart Charging and take advantage of the new features, please follow these simple steps:

  1. Download the tado° app from the App Store or Google Play Store.

  2. Create an account within the main tado° app (if you don't already have one).

  3. Open the app and navigate to the Smart Charging tile on the home screen.

  4. Reconnect your car or charger to start using the new and improved feature.

What happens to your old Smart Charging app account?

You do not need to delete your account on the old standalone Smart Charging app. Your old account and its associated data will be deleted automatically on July 1st, 2026.

Once you have successfully set up your car in the main tado° app, you can simply delete the old standalone app from your smartphone.
