If the wiring in the device you’re replacing with tado° doesn’t match the installation instructions in the tado° app, follow these steps to ensure a proper setup:
Incorrect device selected in the tado° app
If the wiring doesn’t match the instructions, it’s possible that the wrong device was selected in the tado° app. Double-check to ensure you’ve chosen the correct device for your installation.
2. Multiple wires in one terminal
If there are multiple wires connected to a single terminal in your old device, they must stay together when installing your new tado° device. Make sure the wires are connected in the same way as they were in your old setup.
3. Earth/Ground Wire
If you have an earth/ground wire, use one of the empty parking terminals to connect it to the tado° system. However, if you’re installing the Wireless Receiver (UK version), the earth/ground wire must go into the ground terminal, which is marked with this symbol:
4. Unused wires
If you have wires coming from the wall, but they aren’t connected to anything, these are not needed for the tado° system. Either insulate them safely or use one of the empty parking terminals to secure them.
5. Wires with dashed lines
Wires marked with dashed lines (e.g., NC in the image below) may not be present in the device you’re replacing. If you don’t have these wires, simply ignore them and continue with your installation.
6. Use the tado° chatbot for help
If you still have trouble, select the round orange icon in the bottom right-hand corner to open a chat.
To help us to assist you, we’ll ask you to send us clear photos (PDF or JPG) of the following:
Wiring inside your current room thermostat that you want to replace with the tado° Wired Smart Thermostat. We need to clearly see which wire is placed in which terminal block, OR
wiring inside your controller/programmer that you want to replace with the tado° Wireless Receiver, OR
wires connected to the terminal block (which then connects to the tado° device), clearly visible inside your boiler. If you’re unsure where to find the terminal block, please consult your boiler manual.
