Balance for Heat Pumps guides your heat pump to avoid operating during the most expensive times of the day based on your energy contract. The feature Optimize Based on Outdoor Temperature gives Balance more information: Outside-air temperature based on the local weather forecast, as air-to-water heat pumps use more electricity when operating in cold weather. Balance aggregates this information to produce the most cost-saving schedule available based on your heating needs.

You can toggle the Optimize Based on Outdoor Temperature on and off at any time. This feature works independently from your energy tariff.

Air-to-water heat pumps concentrate ambient heat from the air outside to heat your home and hot water. Your heat pump’s efficiency is measured as Coefficient of Performance (COP), which is the ratio of the electrical energy consumed by the heat pump to the heat energy generated. Optimizing based on outdoor temperature lets Balance improve your heat pump’s COP by determining when it’s easiest for your heat pump to heat.
